Free tool · Tracking scanner

Check your pixels and conversion tracking in about 10 seconds.

The Free Tracking Scan loads your live site and checks which analytics and ad tags run, whether any count twice, whether your conversion reaches your ad platforms, and how consent is set up.

Free Tracking Scan

What is the tracking scanner?

A free check of your website’s tracking setup. It loads your homepage and lead pages once in a real browser, reads the network requests your tags send, and reads the published Google Tag Manager container to see how conversion and consent tags are configured.

It reports what it finds as gaps, ranked by severity, with a plain explanation of each. It is the first step of a tracking audit, not a replacement for one.

What it checks

What does the tracking scanner check?

Every check below runs on every scan. The result lists the same checks under “What we checked”.

  • Which analytics and ad tags load, Microsoft Ads included

  • Pixels and conversion tags installed twice, visits counted twice, extra GA4 properties

  • Failed tracking requests, placeholder IDs and unused tags in your tag manager

  • Whether your tag manager tracks your conversion and sends it to your ad platforms

  • Purchase tags in your tag manager set up without a value, currency or transaction ID

  • Google Ads conversions set up without enhanced conversions

  • Google requests sent before Consent Mode defaults apply, and whether Consent Mode v2 is basic or advanced

  • Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads tags with no consent setting in your tag manager

  • Data and cookies sent before consent

  • What still fires after a visitor clicks Accept or Reject

  • Personal data sent to vendors

  • UTMs and click IDs reaching your lead forms

Meta Pixel

Can it check my Meta Pixel?

Yes. The scan treats the Meta Pixel like every other ad tag it finds.

It checks whether the Meta Pixel loads, whether it is installed or initialized more than once, whether more than one tag sends it a PageView, whether your tag manager gives it a consent setting, and whether it sends data before a visitor makes a consent choice. It also flags personal details, such as an email address, seen in requests to a vendor.

A pixel that loads twice or sends extra PageViews inflates what Meta reports. To compare Meta’s numbers with GA4 once the setup is clean, read why Meta Ads and GA4 numbers don’t match.

Conversion tracking

Does it check conversion tracking?

Yes, from the setup side. It works out what counts as a conversion for your site and checks the tags that should record it.

The scan reads your homepage to infer your main conversion: purchases, bookings, demos, subscriptions or leads. It then checks whether a tag in your tag manager tracks that conversion and whether it is sent to your ad platforms or only to analytics. Purchase tags set up without a value, currency or transaction ID are flagged, as are Google Ads conversions set up without enhanced conversions and duplicate conversion tags.

It also sends clearly marked test UTMs and click IDs through your site’s redirects and reads the names of the attribution fields on your lead forms, to see whether a lead’s source survives from ad click to form. It never reads what anyone types into a form.

Server-side tracking

Can it tell if a site uses server-side tracking?

Partly. It sees the browser side of server-side tagging, not what your servers send afterwards.

The scan reports server-side tagging when Google tags send to a first-party or server-side endpoint instead of Google’s own, or when Google Tag Manager is served from your own domain. It also notes a server container that your published web container sends to, marked as configured rather than observed.

It cannot see events your servers send directly to a platform, such as the Meta Conversions API sent from your backend, or what a server container forwards. For how server-side tagging works and when it helps, read the server-side tagging guide.

Limits

What can’t the scan see?

The scan loads your pages in a desktop browser the way a visitor would, once. Some things can only be checked from inside your accounts, which is what the audit does.

  • Conversion values actually sent, or whether Google, Meta or another platform received a conversion.
  • How conversion counts compare across platforms. Use the platform gap checker for that.
  • Events your servers send straight to a platform, such as the Meta Conversions API or offline conversion uploads.
  • Pages behind a login, checkout steps, or booking tools and CRM syncs that can’t be seen from outside.
  • The order tags fire in, or anything that happens only after a visitor submits a form.

Reading the result

How do I read the results?

The verdict comes from the most serious gap the scan found, not from a score.

Needs attention

At least one high-severity gap, such as repeated page events, personal details sent to a vendor, or ad tracking that runs before a visitor answers the consent banner.

Worth a look

Medium-severity gaps only, such as a tag installed twice or a conversion sent to analytics but not to your ad platforms. Also shown when some checks could not finish.

Looks healthy

No high or medium gaps, and every planned check finished. It covers the pages the scan loaded, not your whole site.

Gaps are the high and medium findings, listed worst first, each with what it means for your data. Lower-severity notes sit under “Also noted”. You see the verdict and how many gaps it found right away; enter a work email to see each gap, and we email you the summary to share with your team.

If two platforms already disagree on your numbers, the platform gap checker shows the usual causes for the direction of the gap.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the tracking scanner free?
Yes. Enter your website and the scan loads your live site and reports what it finds. You see the verdict and how many gaps it found right away; enter a work email to see each gap and what it means.
Can it check my Meta Pixel?
Yes. It checks whether the Meta Pixel loads, whether it is installed or initialized more than once, whether more than one tag sends it a PageView, whether your tag manager gives it a consent setting, and whether it sends data before a visitor makes a consent choice.
Can it tell if a site uses server-side tracking?
Partly. It reports when Google tags send to a first-party or server-side endpoint instead of Google, and when a published tag manager container points at a server container. It cannot see events your servers send directly to a platform, such as the Meta Conversions API sent from your backend.
Does it confirm my conversions are reaching Google Ads or Meta?
No. The scan reads how your conversion tags are set up and what your pages send while it loads them. It does not submit your forms or place orders, so it cannot confirm that a platform received a conversion or what value was sent.
Why did the scan say it could not check my site?
Some sites block automated browsers, and a page that takes longer than 15 seconds to load cannot be scanned. That says nothing about your tracking. You can leave your email and an analyst will check the site by hand.
